May U.S. Safety Recalls by Jaguar (1), Volvo (2), Chrysler (2), and Hyundai (1), GM Engine Fire Investigation Expanded and Upgraded

The following May 2007 U.S. safety recalls were published by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
By Ford Motor Company's Jaguar division (with a 1998-2002 Reliability Percentrank average of .04):
(1) 277 2007-2008 Jaguar "XRK" (presumably the XKR) passenger cars for a brake vacuum hose that may have been routed too close to the exhaust gas recirculation valve and attachments on the exhaust manifold, which may melt the hose in the event of contact.
By Ford Motor Company's Volvo division (with a 1998-2002 Reliability Percentrank average of .32):
(2) 7,828 2007 Volvo C70 passenger cars for an incorrectly positioned left-door Bowden cable.
(3) 42,211 2005 Volvo XC90 sport-utility vehicles for a jack crank handle that may have been or may be incorrectly placed between the battery and its bracket. If so placed, it may cause the battery to short-circuit and a fire to result.
By DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group (with a 1998-2002 Reliability Percentrank average of .40):
(4) 270,958 2005 Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Caravan minivans for up-front air bag sensors that may corrode and crack and become inoperative. This is a regional recall, restricted to regions where use of road salt in the winter is common. Regional recalls are quite unpopular with some consumers (especially those living in states that adjoin, but are not included among, the states covered by the recall) and consumer groups. In the covered states, the sensors will be replaced with more corrosion-resistant sensors; in other states, the owners will get a "lifetime free replacement of any sensor that fails." In the latter states, it would seem prudent for owners of affected vehicles to request the dealership periodically to check the sensor, which, it would seem, the dealership should do for free if the "lifetime free replacement of any sensor that fails" has any meaning at all.
(5) 410 2007 Dodge Caliber, Jeep Compass and Jeep Patriot sport-utility vehicles for rear wheel hub mounting bolts that are so long that they may prevent actuation of the park brake.
By Hyundai Motor Company (with a 1998-2002 Reliability Percentrank average of .41):
(6) 2,967 2005-2007 Hyundai Tucson sport-utility vehicles (apparently only in Puerto Rico) for an air bag module that has an insufficient margin of compliance for a small-stature adult driver.
Separately, NHTSA announced that it has expanded its investigation of the engine fire risk in supercharged V6-engine models by General Motors Corporation to now encompass:
177,746 1999-2002 Pontiac Grand Prix GTPs and Bonnevilles, Buick Park Avenues, Regals and Rivieras, and Oldsmobile LSSs
and that it has upgraded the investigation to an engineering analysis, making a recall likely. GM has a 1998-2002 Reliability Percentrank average of .32.
