U.S. Safety Recalls by Land Rover, Volkswagen, General Motors, Chrysler, Honda, and Toyota

The following January 2007 U.S. safety recalls were published by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
By Ford Motor Company's Land Rover division (with a 1998-2002 Reliability Percentrank average of .05):
(1) 6,116 2005-2006 Discovery LR3 sport-utility vehicles for a bad internal breather pipe that may cause a joint to swell and crack, fuel to leak, and fire.
By General Motors Corporation (with a 1998-2002 Reliability Percentrank average of .32):
(2) 98,707 2005-2006 Chevrolet Cobalt passenger cars not equipped with optional roof-mounted side-impact air bags for failure to comply with a federal occupant protection standard. Dealers will install energy absorbing plastic to the headliner trim.
By Honda Motor Company (with a 1998-2002 Reliability Percentrank average of .88):
(3) 81,000 2004-2005 Honda Accord passenger cars for a wiring harness of a seat position sensor that was placed in the wrong position and may have been overtightened, and as a possible result the sensor wire may break and the air bag, when activated, may inflate with excess pressure to the injury of a smaller driver. The great bulk of the Honda Accords are manufactured in North America.
By Toyota Motor Corporation (with a 1998-2002 Reliability Percentrank average of .90):
(4) 533,124 2004-2006 Toyota Tundra pickup trucks and 2004-2007 Toyota Sequoia ("mini vans," per NHTSA's Notice) sport-utility vehicles for improper finishing of the front suspension lower ball joint that may cause steering difficulty and eventually loss of vehicle control. The Toyota Tundra and the Toyota Sequoia are manufactured in North America.
In addition, the following February recalls have been reported.
By Volkswagen AG (with a 1998-2002 Reliability Percentrank average of .22):
(5) 790,000 1999-2006 Golf and GTI cars (including the 2004 R32), 2001-2005 Jetta cars and 2001-2007 New Beetle cars for a possible malfunctioning brake-light switch that may cause the brake light to remain on or off and may, in vehicles with an automatic transmission, cause the shift interlock to immobilize the vehicle.
By General Motors Corporation (with a 1998-2002 Reliability Percentrank average of .32):
(5) 13,032 2007 Saturn Outlook and GMC Acadia sport-utility vehicles for front air bags that may not deploy.
By DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group (with a 1998-2002 Reliability Percentrank average of .40):
(6) 86,333 2006 Dodge Ram pickup trucks for insufficient grease in front-wheel bearings that may cause excessive noise and vibration and eventually loss of vehicle control.
