Toyota, Honda, Subaru, and Nissan Account for Nearly All on List of 2007 Models with CR's Highest Predicted Short-Term Reliability Based on Two or More Years
By James B. Bleeker
Those 2007 models receiving Consumer Reports' highest predicted short-term reliability based on two or more years of data appear in the following table.
The 2007 Models Receiving Consumer Reports' Highest Predicted Short-Term Reliability Rating Based on Two or More Years of Data Category 2007 Model Small Car The Toyota Corolla Family Cars The Honda Accord Hybrid The Toyota Prius The 4-cylinder Honda Accord Upscale/Large Cars Honda's Acura TSX Honda's Acura TL Luxury Car Toyota's Lexus LS Sports/Sporty Cars Toyota's Lexus SC The 4-cylinder Toyota Camry Solara The Subaru Impreza WRX The Honda S2000 BMW's Mini Cooper Hatchback1 Wagons/Minivans The Pontiac Vibe2 Toyota's Scion xB The Toyota Matrix The Toyota Sienna Small SUVs The Honda Element The Honda CR-V The Subaru Forester Midsized SUVs The Toyota 4Runner The Toyota Highlander The Honda Pilot Honda's Acura MDX Large SUVs The Toyota Land Cruiser Toyota's Lexus LX The Toyota Sequoia Pickup Trucks The Subaru Baja The Toyota Tundra The Toyota Tacoma The V6 Nissan Frontier 1 Advisory: BMW's Mini Cooper is on the Worst of 2002 table and the Worst of 2003 table and the 2007 Mini Cooper Turbo Convertible has CR's second-worst predicted short-term reliability rating (Consumer Reports New Car 2007 Preview, p.130). Consequently, CR's predicted short-term reliability rating for BMW's 2007 Mini Cooper Hatchback may be a statistical anomaly, possibly arising from a small data set, or just an error. 2 The Pontiac Vibe is a Toyota Matrix badged as such, but with some differing detail, such as different body panels. The 2007 Models (1) Receiving Consumer Reports' Highest Predicted Short-Term Reliability Rating Based on Two or More Years of Data or (2) Receiving Consumer Reports' Highest Predicted Short-Term Reliability Rating Based on One Year of Data and CR's Highest Predicted Short-Term Reliability Rating for the Preceding Model Year Category 2007 Model Small Car The Toyota Corolla The Honda Civic Hybrid Family Cars The Honda Accord Hybrid The Toyota Prius The 4-cylinder Honda Accord Upscale/Large Cars Honda's Acura TSX Honda's Acura TL Luxury Car Toyota's Lexus LS Nissan's Infiniti M Sports/Sporty Cars Toyota's Lexus SC The 4-cylinder Toyota Camry Solara The Subaru Impreza WRX The Honda S2000 BMW's Mini Cooper Hatchback1 Wagons/Minivans The Pontiac Vibe2 Toyota's Scion xB The Toyota Matrix The Toyota Sienna Small SUVs The Honda Element The Honda CR-V The Toyota RAV4 The Mitsubishi Outlander The Subaru Forester Midsized SUVs The Toyota Highlander Hybrid The Toyota 4Runner The Toyota Highlander The Honda Pilot Toyota's hybrid Lexus RX400h Honda's Acura MDX Large SUVs The Toyota Land Cruiser Toyota's Lexus LX The Toyota Sequoia Pickup Trucks The Subaru Baja The Toyota Tundra The Toyota Tacoma The V6 Nissan Frontier 1 Advisory: BMW's Mini Cooper is on the Worst of 2002 table and the Worst of 2003 table and the 2007 Mini Cooper Turbo Convertible has CR's second-worst predicted short-term reliability rating (Consumer Reports New Car 2007 Preview, p.130). Each Manufacturer's Tally and Percentage of the 2007 Models (1) Receiving Consumer Reports' Highest Predicted Short-Term Reliability Rating Based on Two or More Years of Data or (2) Receiving Consumer Reports' Highest Predicted Short-Term Reliability Rating Based on One Year of Data and CR's Highest Predicted Short-Term Reliability Rating for the Preceding Model Year Manufacturer Number % Toyota Motor Corporation 18 51% Honda Motor Company 10 29% Subaru division of Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. 3 9% Nissan Motor Company 2 6% Mitsubishi Motors Corporation 1 3% BMW AG 1 3% All others 0 0% Note: The Pontiac Vibe is a Toyota Matrix badged as such, but with some differing detail, such as different body panels. Consequently, the Matrix/Vibe model is counted only once and appears in Toyota's tally. Advisory: BMW's Mini Cooper is on the Worst of 2002 table and the Worst of 2003 table and the 2007 Mini Cooper Turbo Convertible has CR's second-worst predicted short-term reliability rating (Consumer Reports New Car 2007 Preview, p.130). Combined, the Top Four - Toyota, Honda, Subaru and Nissan - account for 91% of the 2007 models receiving Consumer Reports' highest predicted short-term reliability rating based on 2 or more years or receiving CR's highest predicted short-term reliability rating based on 1 year and CR's highest predicted short-term reliability rating for the preceding model year.
