Toyota Recalls a Batch of Priuses in the U.S., Japan, and Here and There, a Batch of Scion tCs in the U.S., and a Bunch of Various Models in Southeast Asia and Australia

Toyota Motor Corporation is recalling:
1. In the U.S.,
a. 75,000 2004-2005 Priuses for a software glitch that may cause the vehicle to stall,
b. 71,000 2005-2006 Scion tCs for a moonroof deflector that may shatter upon contact with debris.
2. In Japan, 70,000 2004-2005 Priuses for the same software glitch,
3. Elsewhere, 15,000 2004-2005 Priuses for the same software glitch,
4. In Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, and Australia,
a. 1.27 million vehicles covering 171 models - including the Corolla, Vitz, and RAV4 - for a defective switch that may cause the headlights to fail,
b. 3,722 vehicles for faulty brakes.
The U.S. recall of the Priuses falls within what is termed a "special service campaign," in contrast to a "safety recall," as the driver is usually able to restart and drive the gasoline-electric hybrid by use of the electric motor.
