Toyota and Honda Rule Most Reliable List with 12 of 12 Best, GM Dominates Least Reliable List with 8 of 11 Worst

Toyota Motor Corporation manufactured 7 of the most reliable motor vehicle models, per the 2005 Reliability Index. Two are from Toyota's Lexus line - the LS400 sedan (RIV=.81) and the ES300 (RIV=.71) - and five are from its Toyota line - the Tacoma small pickup truck (RIV=.69), the 4Runner mid-size sport utility vehicle (RIV=.65), the Land Cruiser large sport utility vehicle (RIV=.60), the RAV4 small sport utility vehicle (RIV=.60), and the T100 mid-size pickup truck (RIV=.60). The Land Cruiser is the first large sport utility vehicle to make the Reliability Index's Top Ten List, a rather remarkable achievement for such a sizable machine.
The Reliability Index is a measure of the overall reliability of motor vehicle models when the vehicles are between 6 and 8 years of age, the oldest 2-year age range surveyed by Consumer Reports, whose tables generate the Index.
Honda Motor Company accounted for the remaining 5 of the 12 best. One is from Honda's Acura line - the Integra sedan (RIV=.69) - and four are from its Honda line - the Odyssey minivan (RIV=.69), the CR-V small sport utility vehicle (RIV=.67), the Civic small car (RIV=.67), and the Accord mid-size car (RIV=.60).

These rather, or very, ignominious models are the GMC Safari minivan (RIV= -.63), the Chevrolet Astro minivan (RIV= -.63), the GMC Jimmy (now Envoy) sport utility vehicle (RIV= -.52), the Chevrolet Blazer sport utility vehicle (RIV= -.52), the 2-wheel drive extended Chevrolet Venture minivan (RIV= -.35), the extended Pontiac TransSport (now Montana) minivan (RIV= -.35), the Oldsmobile Aurora sedan (RIV= -.33), and the Chevrolet Malibu (RIV= -.33). The remaining 3 of the 11 worst are the Ford Windstar (now Freestar) minivan (RIV= -.48), the Plymouth/Dodge Neon small car (RIV= -.40), and the Dodge Intrepid sedan (RIV= -.33).
