Himmel vs. Ford Motor
By James B. Bleeker
On February 22, 2005, the Detroit News reported that Stephen B. Himmel, a former Ford Motor Company manager, had sued Ford for firing him for objecting to hire convicted felons and unqualified relatives of union officials. Ford claimed that Himmel was fired for violating labor law by promoting union bargaining representatives to the exclusion of others. The jury believed Himmel, and the evidence he offered, and awarded him $4.8 million.
