General Motors' Silverado and Sierra Pickup Trucks Score Worst on Crash Tests
By James B. Bleeker
Four of General Motors Corporation's pickup truck models scored the worst on the Model Year 2005 frontal crash tests conducted by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The 2005 2-wheel drive and 4-wheel drive Chevrolet Silverado pickup trucks and the 2005 2-wheel drive and 4-wheel drive GMC Sierra pickup trucks received a score of only 3 for passenger impact on its frontal collision test. No other pickups were awarded such a low score for either driver impact or passenger impact on either the frontal collision test or the side collision test. As these pickups received scores of only 4 for driver impact on the frontal collision test, the frontal collision average of 3.5 was the lowest average earned by any of the 2005 pickup models tested.
The following table gives the frontal crash test scores and 1996-2000 Reliability Percentrank averages and grades of these GM models.
