Ignition Flaw Prompts Honda Recall; Hot Seats and Faulty Pumps Prompt BMW Recalls; Reuters Reports Hot Seat and Alleged Third Degree Burns Give Chrysler Legal Problems
On February 2, 2005, the Detroit Free Press reported that Honda is recalling 486,659 vehicles for an ignition flaw that may cause the engine to roll over after the vehicle is parked and the key removed. The recall affects 1999-2002 Accord sedans, 1999-2000 Accord coupes, 1997-2001 Prelude coupes, and some 1999-2000 Acura TLs.1 No information was provided as to how many of the recalled vehicles were sold in the U.S.
In late December 2004, Deutsche Welle reported that BMW AG is recalling 75,000 2003-2004 5-Series and 7-Series vehicles for seats that may overheat.2 No breakdown by nation was provided.
On February 2, 2005, the Detroit Free Press reported that BMW AG is recalling 13,000 vehicles for a faulty pump manufactured by Robert Bosch GmbH.1 No breakdown by nation or model year was provided.
In a December 17, 2004, article, Reuters reported that a former U.S. marine, sensorially paralyzed from the mid-back down, seeks damages for third degree burns sustained, per the complaint, from an overheating Jeep Grand Cherokee seat.3 The article recited several of the cause of action allegations; however, it failed to give the plaintiff's attorney's name and information on venue - omissions that at the very least suggest shoddy journalism.
