Ford Issues Another Safety Recall for Its Escape and Faces Investigations on Its F-150, Expedition, Lincoln Navigator, and Crown Victoria
Ford Motor Company is recalling 262,113 2001-2005 Escape sport utility vehicles for a rear lift gate that, if unlocked, may fly open in a crash. Mazda Motor Corporation, a Ford affiliate with whom Ford shares several commonly engineered models, is recalling 49,800 Tributes for the same problem.
Separately, WNDU of South Bend, Indiana, reports that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating engine fires in the F-150, the Expedition, and the Lincoln Navigator. It said that there have been at least 36 reports of such fires.
In addition, the Detroit Free Press reports another investigation of cracking wheels on 146,000 Crown Victorias, as earlier recalls may have failed to correct the problem.
