Toyota Dominates Top Five List; GM and Saab Subsidiary Garner Two of Bottom Five
Per the Wall Street Journal, Toyota Motor Corporation manufactures four of Consumer Reports' five most reliable motor vehicles. Two are in the Lexus line - the IS 300 and the LS 430 - and two are in the Toyota line - the 4-cylinder Camry and the Avalon.
Honda Motor Company manufactures the remaining one of the top five - the Acura RL.
The bottom five are Volvo's S60, Saab's 9-3, General Motors' super-charged Pontiac Grand Prix, Volkswagen's all-wheel drive Passat, and BMW's 5 Series.
These reliability lists are based on CR's membership responses regarding serious problems experienced with vehicles of the three most recent model years - 2003, 2004, and 2005. Consequently, they should be viewed with caution if ownership of a longer duration is anticipated. Nonetheless, if a Toyota or Honda model shines early (within the first three years), it generally shines later, for at least the next five years.
