January 2004 changes in Canadian motor vehicle manufacturer sales bore something of a "crazy quilt" pattern, as the following table summarizes.

From this summary, few conclusions seem safe. However, good candidates for exceptions are:

1. Improving the quality of the products GM sells to Canadians would likely serve no purpose,

2. GM's shareholders' best interests may well be best served by lowering it.
