General Motors Issues Stop Delivery Order on a Chevrolet
The Associated Press reports that a General Motors spokesman, Jim Schell, confirmed that GM had issued to its dealers a stop delivery order on the Chevrolet Aveo. However, he declined to say why, only, "Any more information would be partial."1
February 2004 has been a bad month for GM. This stop delivery order follows three recalls.
And the year has been a bit grim. In January, a second GMC-Chevrolet piston slap lawsuit sought class action status.
Such travails would be better borne if they were spread across the industry.
Follow-up: Jim Schell reported, shortly after the Associated Press published news of the stop order, that General Motors had lifted it. He said that it was prompted by five accidents with injuries but no fatalities and that GM had concluded that "no vehicle condition was a contributing factor," but declined to provide any further information regarding the circumstances.2
