Toyota's Market Capitalization Towers
In an article entitled "Can Anything Stop Toyota?: An Inside Look at How It's Reinventing the Auto Industry," the November 17, 2003, issue of Business Week reports that Toyota's market capitalization exceeds the market capitalization of DaimlerChrysler, General Motors, and Ford combined. It gives the market capitalization of Toyota Motor Corporation, Nissan Motor Company (second), Honda Motor Company (third), and DaimlerChrysler-GM-Ford as follows:
Manufacturer(s) Market Capitalization Toyota Motor Corporation $110 billion Nissan Motor Company $54 billion Honda Motor Company $40 billion DaimlerChrysler, General Motors, and Ford combined $84 billion The article attributes Toyota's financial preeminence to its engineering achievements and dedication to quality.
Comments: No mention was made of Toyota esthetics in the article. While a bit intangible, it seems safe to say that most of Toyota's products are fine works of contemporary art and that it is the combination of beauty and preeminence in reliability and durability (and likely quite a list of other physical attributes) that cause Toyota owners to cling to their vehicles and the Toyota marque.
