Toyota Garners Another AOI Auto Manufacturer Award for Durability
In March, CCC Information Services, Inc. released its "2002's Top 100 Most Stolen Vehicles Report for the United States." As did the lists for last year and the preceding year, the 2002 list provides further evidence pointing to preeminent Toyota durability vis-à-vis the products of all other auto manufacturers with at least 4% of the new U.S. passenger vehicle market. The following table demonstrates this point.

What appears from this table is that a significant demand for Toyota used replacement parts does not arise until about 11 years after vehicular production and ends about 15 years after vehicular production. In contrast, significant demand for Honda used replacement parts arises as early as 2 years after production and ends about 11 years after production. And in very sharp contrast, significant demand for Big Three used replacement parts either (1) arises as early as 1 year after production and ends about 8 years after production, 3 years before significant demand for Toyota used replacement parts even commences, or (2) never rises at all. This suggest a very speedy and complete dilapidation of Big Three vehicles relative to those made Toyota. It should also be noted that all five Toyota models in the top 25 are Camrys; consequently, because of the high interchangeability of replacement parts for the Camrys of different years, significant demand for replacements parts may not arise until 14 years after production. Hence, the durability of the Toyota Camry, relative to both Honda products and Big Three products may be significantly understated by the above table.
This preeminence in durability accords Toyota another AOI Auto Manufacturer Award for durability. This brings Toyota's durability awards to five.
